Are you our new Senior Platform Engineer?

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing internal infrastructure, tooling, and abstractions, with a primary focus on empowering developers at Appear. You will address build bottlenecks, improve tooling, and troubleshoot development workflows. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key role in shaping innovative technology solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, upgrade, and scale our in-house Kubernetes cluster to meet current demands, addressing pain points with software solutions or hardware acquisitions. Periodically evaluate alternatives to ensure cost-effectiveness.
• Ensure the Kubernetes cluster and related infrastructure comply with Appear’s security standards.
• Provide support for teams working with Rust, C++, Python, Yocto, and TypeScript workflows, both locally and in GitLab CI.
• Identify and address technical debt to improve the developer work experience.
• Host community meetings and workshops to guide developers and gather feedback.

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of work experience as a software engineer, platform engineer, or a mix of both.
• Strong communication skills to understand and address developer requirements effectively.
• Deep understanding of Linux system administration.
• Proficiency in containerization concepts, including benefits and limitations.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and related platforms (AWS, GCP, or bare metal).
• Experience with network configurations (primarily Cisco) and a solid understanding of the OWASP network model.
• Expertise in performance optimization at both the software and hardware levels.

• PXE-based OS boot

• CI/CD workflows, including GitLab CI (or similar tools like GitHub Actions or Jenkins)
• Yocto and embedded Linux
• Renovatebot (Dependabot)
• Security testing (e.g., OWASP or similar frameworks)
• Go, Terraform (or Ansible), Kustomize
